Different website/blog - 1419art.weebly.com
Hi, Kalen, the creator of this blog here- we have switched to the above address for most official 1419 business, although I may continue to use this page for some upcoming juicy stories from the year so far. So if there is actually anyone reading this, stay tuned!

shaping a manifesto
1419 is a space of intersection.
Where art intersects life, blurring the borders between the two. Where student artists, emerging artists, and professional artists all intersect; where all of their work can be presented. Where the University climate and professional climate intersect, being that it is a student run professional art venue. Where non-artists and artists can come together to work, learn, and appreciate each others' differences; a truly interdisciplinary space. Where traditional art and performance forms intersect with contemporary art and performance. A space where risk intersects with opportunity. 1419 is venue for the innovative and cutting edge experimental visual arts and performance, that could range from installations to live concerts, theatre, dance, plays, art exhibits, workshops, and art community building events. We value risk taking, rigor, play, collaboration, interdisciplinary work, networking, teaching, and fun.
So, here's my response to my post. I think this idea of or use of the language "intersection" is crucial and could be one of our main attributes that sets us apart from most other venues. Not only are we the cheapest space in town, but we're also one of the only ones dedicated to promoting student, emerging, and professional artists. Since we started this as students, (which is the other attribute that sets us apart because we're crazy enough to do this) there is an inherent connection between us and the U, and hopefully in time between us and the professional art world (as we continue networking with professional artists). Just thought I'd throw out this thought on intersection.

Here's a link to La Pocha Nostra website and a copy of their ever-evolving manifesto. I think we should all glance at it to get familiar with the language they've decided to use. We could possibly adapt some of the same language. Enjoy.
